We encourage all pre-health students, whether you're just starting out or you're ready to apply, to frequently visit HPAO. The office offers one-on-one advising that's tailored to pre-health students. You can get advising on prerequisite courses, extracurricular opportunities, and personalized help throughout the entire application process. You can also join the HPAO mentor program where you'll be paired up with an upperclass pre-dental student and where you'll be able to get individualized support and advice.
The UCSD Pre Dental Society offers some of the best ways to get hands-on clinical experience in San Diego. The organization operates several free dental clinics around San Diego, and as a student you'll have the opportunity to volunteer as a chairside assistant. The group holds meetings every Thursday on the UCSD campus at 6:30. At meetings, you can find out more about how to get involved in their clinics, and you'll be able to hear from a variety of guest speakers.
SDSU Flying Samaritans is another great way to get hands-on clinical experience as a pre dental student. The group organizes a monthly free medical and dental clinic in Tijuana, Mexico. As a volunteer in the dental clinic, you'll have the opportunity to work as a chairside assistant and play a role in helping patients receive high quality care. Flying Samaritans meets biweekly on Tuesdays, in the Tehuanco suite of the Student Union at 7 pm.
